Mr. Regular quite liked the second generation. A friend of mine has one, and I drove it and asked her what she thinks of it.

It has deserved the name "Honda Shit"

Acceleration is whatever, handling is decent, build quality is "meh", visibility was shit, the "sport mode" just changes the throttle to have 90% of effectiveness in 10% of travel and makes the steering super-ultra-light, the seats are uncomfortable, the back seats are cramped, everything rattles, and this particular example has electrical gremlins like none other.

Yeah, it's better than the previous, but I just don't think it's a *good* car.

I've spent a lot of time around them; first almost buying one for the family and then for myself. You have to understand what your going into and how it compares. Nothing in its class is quick. For what it is, the power is decent. I never felt any build quality issues. Its a Honda. They are reliable and I never noticed anything too bad. As for visibility maybe its because you are tall or short, but for myself I thought it was great. The whole greenhouse effect and a ton of windows eliminated like all blind spots.

As for steering, its a Honda. They usually all are very light. But again its not that bad compared to the competition. I will agree slightly on the seats. They are not the best out there. But its a $15,000 car; they weren't made to be great. I found backseat space decent enough. And keep in mind, this thing is ultra practical. Like crushing everything in its competition. It has more cargo space than many CUV's; something no rival can match.

Its a very solid car for what it is IMO

It just seems so.. flambouyant and boy-racer in some of the styling. You get in and there's the sport button and the steering is light and it seems like it tries really REALLY hard to be something it's not: a Civic Type-R or something like that. I dunno, small cars aren't really my cup of tea as it is.

As for build quality, this could have been a bit of a lemon, or just abused. Not sure.

Sadly thats a lot of Hondas lately. Look at my Civic with the whole digital dash and aggressive bumper and small lip spoiler. Im not a fan of it either honestly. I can really agree with you on the being something it isn't. The biggest saving grace for these is the manual though. Its a great transmission.

I drove the automatic. It isn't. It has a paddle shifter mode when you go to sport mode (WTF?! WHY?!) which is entirely useless. It's fun, but there is such a delay between hitting the button and getting the gear you want there is absolutely no point to it. It's quicker for me in my Buick to grab the PRND321-auto and slam it down to 2nd gear than it was to click "go down a gear plz" and wait for something to happen.

I agree though, it's an excellent small car. Bigger on the inside than you'd think.

When they introduced the Fit in Europe (Jazz), everyone thought it was an MPV and it was marketed to families. I guess it's too small for that in 'Murica. :) No boyricer ever took a second look at it over here. I think you may be projecting a bit.

Until you get it to highway speeds and it becomes completely unstable. That makes it slightly less practical.

It's a subcompact car... you shouldn't expect much from it. I drove a 2010 yaris hatchback for a week thanks to business trip rental - it was utter crap. "Slow" didnt even begin to describe it - it was terrifying trying to merge onto the highway in Alabama when everyone is doing 85. Material and build was cheap, not an ounce of sound deadening, and the biggest sin of all, no tachometer. Yes. The engine is so shitty, that they decided that it didn't deserve a tachometer. But then again, it's a subcompact, and it was only for a week, so I didn't really care much about it.

Yes. the fit is the shittiest car honda makes, (besides CRZ) but it's supposed to be a cheap shitty car in the first place. I recently test drove a 2015 Fit, and found it to be quite pleasant. Yes the engine is still weak, yes there's little sound deadening, and no you can't have manual AND leather, god forbid, but it's a nice cheap car.

My mom has a 2014 Yaris rental right now. It's the worse thing I've ever seen or heard. I have yet to find a redeeming feature of it.

I owned this (2012 Versa sedan base model, manual, no tach, no power options. Hubcaps removed for teh lulz)

Kinja'd!!!

and now I own this alongside my Panther

Kinja'd!!!

2014 Versa Note base model, manual, has a tach but no power options, still has hubcaps for now.

It takes a certain kind of weirdo to love subcompacts. And those who don't, will only ever see them as uncomfortable, poorly made, unsafe, slow piles of junk.
